Tall Tales, Fish Tails, & Damn Lies
Music and words from a fishing community
[STONINGTON, MAINE, July 6, 2018] – Tall Tales, Fish Tails, & Damn Lies comes to the Stonington Opera House on Monday, July 23 for a night of music and words from a fishing community. The variety show will include stories from Bob Quinn and Dennis Damon, and music from Hank Whitsett, Frank Gotwals, Church of the Morning After, and Paul Anderson and the Intinerate Visitors. Paul Anderson, Executive Director of Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries, will serve as the evening’s host. He is a lifelong musician who plays the mandolin, guitar, and piano, and is active in numerous bands, as well as WERU Community Radio.
Tickets can be purchased online at tall-tales.eventbrite.com. The evening benefits Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries, a local nonprofit that works to secure a sustainable future for fisheries and communities. “The center works on the water, with fishermen, to inform science and policy,” according to Anderson. “We recognize the need to interact closely with communities. Music, food, and art have always been wonderful vehicles for finding common language. It makes the work fun, transcending boundaries in an otherwise complex discourse.”
Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. at 1 Opera House Ln in Stonington. Food and drinks will be available. Visit tall-tales.eventbrite.com for more details.
About Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries:
Maine Center for Coastal Fisheries is a nonprofit that works to secure a sustainable future for fisheries and fishing communities in Eastern Maine by supporting today’s fishermen, educating future generations, and inspiring community stakeholders to become advocates. They facilitate innovative programs which create a place where co-management of the ecosystem can be shared by fishermen, community groups, scientists, and fisheries managers. The result will be an industry that can adapt and persevere, even as climate and oceans change.
