Alexa M. Dayton As MCCF’s Executive Director, Alexa leads the MCCF staff and Board to fulfill the mission of sustainable fishing and coastal communities in downeast Maine. She brings more than 25 years of business planning, strategic planning, public relations, community outreach and environmental sciences to the post. During her previous time at the Gulf of Maine Research Institute, she led the science & fisheries management education program, the Marine Resource Education Program (MREP), for more than a decade. Her work has enabled over 2,000 commercial and recreational fishermen around the country to advocate on their own behalf in the fisheries management and science processes and shape policy issues. Her Ph.D. thesis evaluated the economic impacts of a changing climate on the profitability of the Maine Lobster fishery. Her motivation is to find economically viable and environmentally sustainable solutions to help coastal communities face challenging ‘wicked’ problems. In her time off she enjoys time with her family, friends and getting outdoors to go skiing, biking, boating and golfing.
