Equipped with a lifetime of experience from commercial fishing, or a deep connection to Maine's coast, Discovery Wharf staff are here to guide you through our exhibits, pass-along their knowledge, and share engaging stories that captivate audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
Sitting over Stonington Harbor, Maine's highest lobster landing port, Discovery Wharf is located in the perfect place to directly connect the knowledge gained and experiences had inside our center with the fishing-dependent communities right outside our doors.
In the heart of Stonington harbor, Maine’s highest lobster landings port, fisheries come alive at 13 Atlantic Avenue at our on-site interpretive center and Maine Marine Museum, Discovery Wharf. From local school groups to visitors near and far, we offer a get-your-hands-wet opportunity to engage with and learn about local fisheries and the Gulf of Maine marine ecosystem.
MCCF’s Discovery Wharf serves people of all ages, race and abilities. It provides thousands of visitors from across the USA and beyond with a variety of interactive experiences ranging from hands-on learnings about various sea creatures in our touch tank, to the first hand stories about life on the sea by our Captain Leroy Weed, to the virtual reality experiences of being on a lobster boat or in a river filled with migrating alewives.
We strive to ensure that every visitor learns something new about Maine’s coastal fisheries, the natural environment supporting the fisheries and MCCF’s work to sustain these important resources and support our coastal communities. Discovery Wharf provides a positive and memorable experience for all visitors, so please plan to make us part of your summer 2024 plans, you won’t regret it.
